Periodontal means “around the tooth”. It includes all the structures that support the tooth like bone, gums and Periodontal ligaments. Periodontal disease or Periodontitis is the infection that affects the tissues that surround the teeth. If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss. The treatment of Periodontal Disease depends upon the type and severity of the disease.
